Focused ultrasound concentrates ultrasound energy at a set depth beneath the skin, much as a magnifying glass focuses light, to create small thermal coagulation points. With Shurink Universe, cartridges of different depths and delivery modes (dot-pattern Normal, and MP, which distributes heating broadly) are chosen to suit each area. Results and how long they last vary between individuals, and it is not a substitute for surgical lifting.
How focused ultrasound works
Ultrasound passes through the skin surface and generates heat where it converges at a set focal point. Because the energy is dispersed at the surface and concentrated only at the focus, small thermal coagulation points can be created at a specific depth beneath the skin.
Each cartridge has a fixed focal depth, so depths ranging from shallow levels near the dermis to deeper levels near the fascial layer (SMAS) are chosen according to the area and skin thickness. Even within the same face, skin thickness differs from area to area, so choosing the depth matters.
Cartridges and delivery modes
According to the manufacturer, facial cartridges come in depths such as 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm, and there are also deeper cartridges for body areas and a booster handpiece that delivers energy in a circular pattern.
Delivery modes include the Normal (Dot) mode, which delivers energy in a dot pattern, and the MP mode, which distributes heating broadly. The cartridges and functions actually used at MODNI are explained at the consultation; this does not mean that every manufacturer function is offered.

How treatment areas are decided
- Where the sagging is
- We check where sagging has developed, such as the jawline, cheeks or around the mouth, and left–right differences.
- Skin thickness
- We choose the depth according to the thickness of the skin and subcutaneous tissue in each area.
- Sensitive areas
- Areas where bone lies close to the surface and areas where nerves run are avoided or treated with different settings.

Consultation and skin check
We check your skin thickness and areas of sagging, and decide the treatment areas and depths.

Preparation
After cleansing, the treatment area is marked and a gel is applied to transmit the ultrasound.

Treatment
Each area is treated at the depth and mode decided for it. If the aching or tingling feels strong, please tell us.

Soothing and aftercare advice
We check your skin and explain how to care for it on the day.
Precautions, side effects and limits
- You may feel aching or a tingling sensation during treatment.
- After treatment there may be temporary redness, swelling or tenderness when pressed, which usually settles within a few days.
- Rarely, bruising, burns, temporary numbness or reduced sensation, or symptoms of nerve irritation can occur. If symptoms persist, please contact us right away.
- Results and how long they last vary between individuals, and it is not a substitute for surgical lifting.
Aftercare
- 1On the day of treatment, avoid saunas, strenuous exercise and alcohol.
- 2Apply sunscreen thoroughly and keep your skin well moisturized.
- 3Do not rub or massage the treated area hard.
- 4If swelling or pain lasts a long time, or you notice any change in sensation, please contact us right away.
Frequently asked questions
How many shots will I have?
We do not set fixed shot-count packages in advance. We explain this at the consultation after checking your skin condition, the treatment areas and the depths to be used.
How is it different from Volnewmer?
Volnewmer uses radiofrequency to deliver heat over a relatively broad area, while Shurink Universe concentrates ultrasound at a set depth to create small thermal coagulation points. The suitable method depends on your skin condition, and they are sometimes planned together.
Will I swell after treatment?
There may be temporary swelling or tenderness when pressed. It usually settles within a few days, but please contact us if it lasts longer.
